Memorial Day Weekend

Every year, the National Cemetery puts an American flag on every grave for Memorial Day. Although we were unable to participate in the placement of the flags this year, the kids walked through the graves and diligently repositioned all the flags that had already fallen. Along the way, Belle pointed out the name James on several tombs, and even a James Edward. John wanted to find his name too, but believe it or not, we had difficulty locating one. When we finally found the name John, I began to wonder if one or both of my sons would wear a uniform one day. Whether or not they do, I aim to raise patriots, despite the growing apathy toward God and country. We will learn patriotic music, go to parades, visit gravesides, tour history museums and other monuments, and most importantly have conversations about appreciating our military and government.
