The Battle of Pocotaligo Reenactment
We enjoyed a glimpse into the past at The Battle of Pocotaligo Reenactment. The Civil War era truly came alive for my little student as she studied all the dress, belongings and ways of yesteryear. In particular, Belle was fascinated by the soldiers' campsites. She listened intently to an explanation of the cannons and especially liked viewing The Hunley replica (which she later constructed with Legos at home) Although quite captivated with the fighting, she took a moment to seek assurance that the injuries sustained by the soldiers on the battlefield were feigned. After the battle, my little explorer had a blast checking out the trenches, which we were told were the original ones dug by Confederate soldiers. Despite the muddy conditions of the battlefield, we all had a great time, including baby James who happily slept in the wrap the entire battle and only winced once for gunfire.
