For the past few years, we have put together treat bags with a gospel tract to pass out. Although I realize most will never be read, you never know when a seed might be planted. My kids get some candy from a couple of close neighbors' houses, but most of the evening, they understand they are responsible for passing out the goody bags they made.
We had a picnic lunch downtown and stuffed our bags this year. Belle is wearing her handmade astronaut costume for the occasion. (Note the socks she pinned on to cushion her face from the cardboard)
Our costumes aren't always religious, but the kids dressed up as Mary and Joseph this time. After much discussion lat year about spreading the good news of Jesus, Belle requested they be a living nativity almost a year in advance! (Thank you for making them, Granny!) Since the kids are still young, we also allow them to participate in the trick-or-treat downtown. It was interesting to hear all the comments about their costumes as we made our way through crowded Bay Street. Someone actually thought John was Lawrence of Arabia! One person said, "OH, they are...yep, church costumes!"

John just wanted to plop down and dig into his candy! At home later, I rationed him to one piece. He assured me he wasn't eating, just "counting" his candy. Then, the little rascal holds up a piece and says, "This one says, 'NO SUGAR ADDED," so can I eat it too?"
