Happy New Year

Last New Years Eve, some fireworks woke Belle shortly before midnight. Spontaneously, I decided to let her stay up and bring in the New Year. After explaining the tradition to her, we quickly grabbed a ball and dropped it at the stroke of 12:00. It was one of those unplanned occasions that just turned into a beautiful memory for both of us. All year, Belle spoke of it and asked if she would be allowed to stay up to welcome another New Year.

When New Years Eve came, I put her to bed at 8:00pm as usual, but I promised to wake her in time to bring in 2015. Around 11:30, I nudged her, but she hardly stirred. As I was leaving the room, she stumbled down her bunk bed ladder and half sleep walked to the couch. Snuggling close to her baby brother, I thought she might drift off to sleep with him. However, once she remembered the decorations and home made confetti filled ball she had made, she woke up enough to really cheer in the new year. She smothered sweet James with a million kisses. By 12:15am, however, she was yawning and making her way back to bed all on her own.

The next morning, I was sluggish and unmotivated to make the breakfast pancakes I have made the last few years, so instead, we had them for lunch and discussed a few plans for the upcoming year. I love the goals Belle came up with for 2015. I really hope she is tall enough to climb the Hunting Island Lighthouse this summer!
