Lesson in the diapers

My church family recently blessed us with a wonderful evening of great food, fellowship and baby essentials. All of three of us pregnant mommas left with over 450 diapers and 1,000 wipes. Thanks to thoughtful friends, I am well prepared for the arrival of our newest addition in just a few months!

I had a great evening, but the kids were a little disappointed about being unable to attend the party. Although they were already in bed when I returned, I decided to include them in the baby celebration the next morning. I left all of the diapers and a few unopened packages in the kitchen for them when they woke. They enjoyed seeing all the baby goods and were even more excited when I told them they were in charge of helping organize everything in their new little brothers room. Belle quickly got her shopping cart and started hauling diapers.

The kids got sidetracked organizing the diapers by their imaginations. John thought they should arrange the diapers all over the floor and make a trampoline out of them. Belle decided to make seat belts for their diaper jumping and ended up tying herself to the easel. I took over the process and realized many lessons can be learned with a few packs of diapers.

First, I showed Belle how to sort the sizes of the diapers. We discussed the weight for each size and which ones James could wear first. We talked about the different brands and how many diapers and wipes were in each package. We tallied up the number of packages and the total number of diapers. Overall, we had a lengthy but good discussion about babies, and the kids are both looking forward to baby James arriving to use up all the diapers!
