Boston Tea Party Reenactment

One afternoon, the kids were dressed as Indians and scouring the yard for food to store for the long, cold winter. (Belle's words) As I watched my fair headed little Indians, I thought of the Boston Tea Party, which we had just studied. On a whim, I grabbed some tea from the pantry and suggested they throw it into the Boston Harbor (aka our baby swimming pool) like the colonists did.

Excited about doing a mini reenactment, Belle wanted to make it more authentic by actually standing in a pretend boat to throw the tea. As always, they let their imaginations run wild. Not only did they throw the tea overboard so many times the water turned brown, but they also purposely jumped ship and capsized it several times. In the end, I had two soaked, but very happy Indians who had their history lesson reinforced through our fun. Even 2 year old John was singing the history memory sentence while they played in the Boston Harbor.

PS-Daddy was a little concerned about the bows in John's hair, but I assured him they were only "Indian feathers."
